De Beers AFC: A Century of Football in Somerset West
From the Original Dynamiters of 1902 to eleven teams competing across the Helderberg today, De Beers AFC is the home of community football in Somerset West, Strand, Gordon's Bay, Helderview and Firgrove.
Our Story
The Original Dynamiters
De Beers AFC stands as one of South Africa's most storied amateur football clubs, with a legacy spanning well over a century. Founded in 1902 and originally known as "The Dynamiters", our club has been a cornerstone of the Somerset West community, and the wider Helderberg, for generations.
For many decades, our home was on De Beers Avenue. In 2009, we embarked on a new chapter, moving to our prestigious current facilities in Paardevlei. Conveniently situated near the N2, the ground is just minutes from Strand, Gordon's Bay, Helderview and Firgrove, giving players from across the Helderberg basin a world-class environment to train and compete.
Our philosophy is simple but powerful: we believe in nurturing the love of the game from within. Rather than simply signing finished talent, we dedicate ourselves to growing our own stars, focusing on technical development and teamwork from the earliest age groups up to our senior teams.

Our History
120 Years of De Beers AFC
The Foundation
Founded as "The Dynamiters", the club became one of South Africa's most storied amateur football clubs, a cornerstone of the Somerset West community and the wider Helderberg for generations.
Home on De Beers Avenue
For much of the 20th century the club's home was on De Beers Avenue, where its identity and rivalries were forged across generations of local football.
A New Home at Paardevlei
The club moved to its current facilities in Paardevlei. Situated near the N2, the ground sits minutes from Strand, Gordon's Bay, Helderview and Firgrove: a base for players from across the Helderberg basin.
Growing Our Own
Eleven teams now compete under SAFA, from minis through to the senior squads. The philosophy is unchanged: nurture the love of the game from within, developing our own talent rather than simply signing it.
